As we continue looking for meaningful ways to connect with our members, we’re pleased to share that we are reimagining one of our most important traditions—our Annual Meeting.
This year, we are making an important change to the format to better reflect what we want it to be for our members—a member appreciation event.
The Member Appreciation Event will be held on Thursday, September 10, at the San Patricio County Civic Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with business updates beginning at 7:00 p.m.
New Format:
Members can look forward to door prizes and family-friendly activities designed to make the evening enjoyable for all ages. While we are still finalizing some of the details, our goal is simple: to create a meaningful opportunity to say thank you to the members we serve.
We will still conduct all required business during the meeting, but it will be a part of the evening—not the entire focus.
New date & Time: Thursday, September 10 at 5:30 p.m.
By moving our signature event to a Thursday evening, we hope to make it easier for more members and families to attend after work and school activities. This change also allows us to create a more relaxed atmosphere where members can spend more time enjoying the event, visiting with staff and taking part in appreciation activities, rather than focusing primarily on formal proceedings.
New Location: San Patricio County Civic Center
This year’s event will be held at a new location in Sinton, instead of Beeville. The San Patricio County Civic Center is closer to our office and offers a facility that supports the type of gathering we’re planning. We also see this as an opportunity to make the event more accessible to members who may not have attended in the past, and simply a chance to try something new while we continue to improve the overall experience.
Election Details
This year, our board election will look a little different due to recent changes on the Board of Directors. Our District 5 Director, Clyde Stewart, passed away last September after 13 years of service on SPEC’s Board of Directors. Additionally, Jack Bishop, who served as the Director-at-Large, moved outside of our service area after just over a year of service on SPEC’s Board of Directors. To fill these vacancies, the Board appointed Lea Ann Lockard as Director-at-Large and Charles Ring as the District 5 Director.
In total, we’ll have four director districts up for election. The District 2 and District 6 positions will be elected for three-year terms.
The District 5 and Director-at-Large positions will each be elected for a one-year term. Because these seats were filled by appointment, they must stand for election this year before returning to the regular election cycle. As a result, both positions will be up for election again next year for full three-year terms.
Incumbents in this year’s election are Tom Mayo in District 2 and Jim Bassett in District 6. Mr. Bassett has announced he will not seek re-election.
