How does lightning try to get to the ground?
It's attracted or drawn to

tall trees
big buildings
chimneys
people standing out in the open during a storm

Thunderstorm Safety

Don't stand under a tall tree to wait for the rain to stop. Go inside a building. Once inside, carefully unplug any electronic equipment like TV's, stereos, VCR's or computers. If lightning strikes the building it can burn up expensive electrical equipment and appliances


Electricity No-No's...

  • DON'T fly kites near power lines!
  • DON'T step out of the car if a power line falls on it!
  • DON'T climb trees near power lines!
  • DON'T put things in wall outlets!
  • DON'T dig without checking for underground power lines!
  • DON'T touch electric appliances when you are wet or near water!
